[It's a welcome sense of peace, and when their eyes meet very briefly, Yu becomes quite certain that Mikey feels it too. It's only for that one moment, of course; Yu then busies himself with pouring more coffee. He even slides the sugar over with it.]

Late, [he admits pretty easily. Not for any particular reason, other than work, but that's fairly normal. In any case, he's doing a stellar job masking the amusement in his voice -- Yosuke sure is trying to maintain some weird sort of modesty, for some reason. Look, it's funny.] I didn't want to wake you.

[And here comes cup number three, offered to Yosuke once he's done trying to find his dignity under that blanket.]

[why is he suddenly searching for dignity when he's had none for years? who knows. but he'll take the cup of coffee, and flop onto the chair next to Mikey as he sips it.]

[no shit, Yosuke. he coughs a bit and then puts the mug down, rubbing his eye as he does it.]

[It all feels so...so normal. A soft laugh, a quick, somewhat teasing utterance --"Careful"-- and somehow, the back-and-forth is just so natural. His expression is unguarded for a moment as he watches them, but it's like as soon as he realizes it, he looks away to work on the breakfast.

[listen. Yosuke's gotta pretend to pout about the laugh, but there's a little bit of relief. even though there's some mixed feelings about Mikey at times... it's nice to be a little normal. there was so much killing and death...

he watches Yu for a moment. he catches that unguarded expression, and there's an ache in his heart. he knows how much this whole situation with Mikey had affected him, and maybe this was good. maybe they could work this out, after all.

[Yosuke chokes too, but not on coffee. it's his own spit.

he tosses the spoon that he'd just stirred his coffee with at Mikey's head.]

[he's not. actually mad.]

(the laughter that comes out of him when both of them choke over his words is loud, genuine, and he even bends a little with how strongly it leaves him.
