as they start to run, Yosuke fights the urge to put his hands over his face and just ends up keeping a hold on Yu.]

If I die, remember that I love you!!

[stop being dramatic Yosuke, it's not like death is permanent in this place. but he sure feels like he's going to die or get dropped at any moment, since Yu's running is jostling him so much...]

[--woah.

He really said that.

Yosuke isn't the only one who's flustered. It's not as though neither of them has ever said the words before, but it's not something they say often, and shouting it like that in the middle of a crowd... Yu's face reddens considerably and quickly, and he tightens his grip on the other boy.]

You won't, [he says with a huff of exertion, redoubling his efforts, watching the finish line draw closer one step at a time. They're not the first ones to cross, but Yu considers it a win anyway, when they finally do. He's breathing heavily when he comes to a stop, sweat trickling down his brow, and before he lets Yosuke down--]

I...love you, too.

[--he has to say it. Because he's not sure he has, more than once or twice.]

[Yosuke is happily let go of, and he almost falls over on getting back up-- but he makes it.

after he brushes himself off and situates his clothes again, he looks over at Yu... who looks almost flustered? he grins at Yu though, almost in a cocky way.]

I know.

[a beat.]

Don't look like I've said it for the first time, geez.

Yu...is a little flustered, to be fair -- they don't exactly shout things like that every day, and he...it...well. It's not a bad thing by any means. Yosuke's grin seems to bring him back to the present, though, and a smile slowly tugs at his expression as he nudges the other boy a bit.]

It's the first time as my wife, though.

[man i didn't even think about han solo when i wrote that tag--

now it's Yosuke's turn to get more flustered, and he slapped at Yu's shoulder playfully.]

Shut up. Who's idea was this, anyway? Why a wife carrying competition?

[It feels somewhat like a victory, or at least equalizing, that Yosuke reacts to that jab so much, and Yu can't help the tug of smile that continues in his expression, the soft huff of a laugh as the other teen smacks his shoulder.]

Good question, [he says with a small shrug.] It sounds like some kind of...tradition, maybe?

[A beat.]

Not one I've ever heard of, though.

[he shakes his head.]

Can't we get a participation trophy or something like that? Er-- well maybe not a trophy, but some sort of prize. I refuse to go through all that shit for nothing.

[as if it was a hardship!! but he's gonna fuss, anyway.]

Even a coupon for some food would be nice.

A participation trophy. [The tone he uses when repeating those words is somewhere between incredulous and amused. Of course Yosuke is fussing over this.]

I think the prize is meant to be a sense of accomplishment...or something.

[Not that he has a feeling about it either way, honestly; they didn't win and it's not like they need food coupons. On the other hand, the whole thing was kind of weird. But of course he has to give Yosuke a hard time about it.]

[he throws his hands into the air.]

But you know what, that's just my life. [he does, however, watch the people who win get a trophy, somewhat jealously.

he's so fucking sad LMFAO.] Let's get outta here then, before we get roped into another round or something.

It's just some little plastic thing.

[Yu tries to keep the amused tone out of his voice. Yosuke is practically pouting over this little knickknack, or the lack of it, and trying to keep a straight face really puts his Expression to the test.

Anyway, nodding in agreement, he nudges Yosuke's shoulder as they turn to go. For all the pouting and fussing, there's still a measure of affection in his voice as he responds.] Yeah. Let's check out the rest of the festival.
